Once again the up train is led by Merddin Emrys. Here at the Penrhyn grade crossing of the A4085. (British highways are classified as A, B, or M for Motorway. I suggest some Welsh roads should be lettered PS for Paved Sheep track!) A volunteer is stationed here during operating hours to open and close the old style wooden crossing gates. The railway lies so close to the houses here it's possible to reach out a carriage window and shake hands with a home owner through their window.
