As soon as Lyd stops for water the driver gets out and starts to oil around while the fireman fills her tank. Built by the Ffestiniog it took 15 years to construct her at the railway's Boston Lodge shops. Lyd is based on the design of the Lynton & Barnstaple locomotive E188 known as "Lew" which was built by Manning Wardle in 1925 for the Southern Railway, hence the Southern livery on Lyd.
