Rio Grande Southern (RGS) Galloping Goose number 6. Designed to self balance on uneven mountain track, the swaying back half of these vehicles look like geese waddling down the track, hence their popular nickname, "Galloping Goose". In an effort to stem mounting financial loss "Galloping Geese" were used from 1931 to 1951 to replace steam powered trains between Durango, Telluride, and Ridgway in southwestern Colorado. They were built from used Buick and Pierce Arrow automobiles, plus spare parts, to haul passengers, mail, and freight. RGS 7 appears behind this flat bed version of a Galloping Goose.
