Schynige Platte Bahn Derailed

Breitlauenen Switzerland - Train collision above Wilderswil:

Six passengers and two crew members in a freight train had a blessing in disguise.

The passenger train left around 16:00 towards Schynige Platte with a stopover in Breitlauenen.

This led to the collision with a Wilderswil bound freight train, announced the railway on Wednesday.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet clear, studies are under way.

"The trains do not travel fast on the railway", said Simon Bickel, spokesman for the Jungfraubahnen.

"The cog railway operates with a maximum speed of 12 kilometers per hour."

Due to bad weather the passenger train was not heavily occupied.

The collision overturned the locomotive of the freight train and derailed a passenger car.

The passengers escaped with a fright, and everyone was then brought to Wilderswil.
