Special Stamp for Pilatusbahn

Alpnachstad Switzerland - This year is the 125th anniversary of the cog railway up Mount Pilatus so it will receive its own stamp.

"Our joy is insanely huge," says Beat Wältli, Sales and Marketing Director of Pilatus-Bahnen AG.

The special stamp is worth CHF 1.00 with an issue date of 8 May 2014.

"As we thought about how we can celebrate the 125th anniversary, this idea came to us," says Wältli.

The company then applied for the special stamp and the Swiss Post promise came promptly.

"This is really a great honour for us," says Beat Wältli.

How the special stamp will look is still secret.

"Swiss Post is responsible for the design of the stamp. We have given some input, for example, historical imagery."

The opening of the railway from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm was on 4 Jun 1889.

At that time, the cog railway was still powered by steam.

In 1937 the route was electrified.
