This triebwagen is preparing to stop at platform 2 for a meet. There is only one passing siding between Grütschalp and Mürren and it's located here. Left of the triebwagen an Inuksuk rests on top of the gravel platform roof. The corner of the restaurant roof is just visible to the extreme left of the photo. The structure on the right behind the train labelled Winteregg is a winter only ski lift base terminal. The longest downhill ski race in the world (10 miles or 14.9 kilometres in length), known as the "Inferno Mürren", begins at the Shilthorn, elevation 9,744 feet (2,970 metres), passes through Winteregg then ends at Lauterbrunnen, 7,119 feet (2,170 metres) lower. Competent skiers take about 45 minutes. Best time so far, 13 minutes and 21 seconds. Check out this helmet cam YouTube video from the 2015 race.
