New Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp
Aerial Cableway in Operation

Lauterbrunnen Switzerland - The new Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp aerial cableway went into service on Saturday, 16 Dec 2006.

Bang on time for the winter season!

This means that the railway link from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren by panoramic mountain railway is now open again.

Construction of the new aerial cableway was necessary because the tracks of the old funicular crossed a slip area.

The new cableway makes it possible to span the main slip zone.

This traffic link is of key importance to the holiday resort of Mürren.

The aerial cableway is constructed as a single-track cableway carrying 100 passengers per journey.

A load carrier mounted beneath the passenger cabin allows 6,000 kilograms of goods to be transported at the same time.

Travelling time is 4 minutes, a full 7 minutes less than by the old funicular.

The cableway was constructed by Garaventa, the panorama cabin by Gangloff.

The overall cost of the new installation is CHF 23.4 million.
