Dartmouth Steam Railway Fireman Prepares to Cycle for Charity

Paignton South Devon - A Fireman for the Dartmouth Steam Railway in Paignton is preparing to swap train tracks for two wheels in a charity cycle from London to Paris.

Richard Pyle, 39, lives in Torquay, will cycle 299 miles over four days through English countryside, to the ferry from Dover to Calais to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.

To raise his target of £1,600 for the charity, Richard is doing a number of collection days at the railway where he works, as well as holding a raffle.

Richard said:  "I saw the challenge to cycle from London to Paris on Facebook, and I thought it sounded like fun, and that I would love to give it a go! I don't drive a car, so I cycle to and from work every day. I used to cycle a lot, and about 10 years ago I cycled from Torquay to Lands' End in a day. I'm planning a 14 mile training ride soon to prepare myself for the challenge. I'm hoping to raise £1,600, but I would love to beat that by a long way. My boss has given me a footplate ride voucher to raffle so I'm putting everyone who donates into a draw for the voucher to be drawn on 1 Jul 2016."
