Bishops Lydeard Somerset - The first steam engine built to run on the UK mainline for almost 50 years is returning to west Somerset.
 
The Tornado will be travelling from Bishops Lydeard and Minehead on weekdays from 12-16 Jul 2010 and 13-17 Sep 2010.
 
It will also take passengers down the 20-mile heritage line.
 
It is planned for the train to work two round trips per day.
 
Normal fares will be charged however it is possible to buy Rover tickets in advance.
 
Tornado was funded and assembled by steam enthusiasts in Darlington in an 18-year project costing £3 million.
 
The 72 feet (22 metres) engine is based on the Peppercorn A1 locomotive, which British Railways withdrew from service in the 1960s.
 
West Somerset Railway general manager Paul Conibeare said, "In over three decades of operation the only engines which have attracted as much interest from both the enthusiasts and the general public have been "Evening Star" and "Duke of Gloucester".
 
He said this was a tribute to the "wonderful achievement of the A1 Locomotive Trust in creating this magnificent steam locomotive".
 
"Not merely was its last visit very popular with the public but our footplate crews greatly enjoyed the opportunity to drive and fire Tornado. We look forward to seeing the locomotive back with us."
