GWR Caerphilly Castle, a 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler, rests in the Swindon museum over a well-lit pit providing access for visitors to walk underneath the locomotive. This photo shows the water scoop, in the raised position, located beneath the tender. The scoop enabled the locomotive to take water from a track pan while travelling at speed thereby eliminating the need to stop for water.
