The Taurachbahn Steamed

The Taurachbahn, the jewel of Club 760, runs in the summer months with cheerful guests and locals from and to Mauterndorf.

There is also lots of fun on board, music is played, and an experience is guaranteed.

The Taurachbahn was once part of the Murtalbahn.

Groundbreaking for the Murtalbahn took place in 1893 at Murau with the inauguration following a year later in 1894.

In the beginning the Murtalbahn was part of the General Directorate of the Austrian State Railways.

In 1896 it was established as a private stock company, the Murtalbahn Unzmarkt-Mauterndorf AG, with all concession rights.

Steiermärkische Landesbahnen took over the management in 1921.

Passenger service between Tamsweg and Mauterndorf was discontinued in 1973 with freight service termination following in 1981.

The Tamsweg-Mauterndorf section was leased to Taurachbahn GmbH in 1982.

Since 1988 the Taurachbahn has been privately run by the tireless work of Club 760 volunteers.
