25 Years of the Taurachbahn

As a result of the previous state elections last year, and the formation of the government, there were problems with the honours, so we decided to postpone the festivities by one year.

Since the Taurachbahn receives advice, assistance, and support from the country with many problems, we also wanted to give state politicians the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary.

The Taurachbahn volunteers were glad that the state Governor honoured them with his visit.

Mayor Wolfgang Eder greeted the many honourable guests and paid tribute to the work of Club 760.

The Taurachbahn is an essential part of the community's tourist offering.

Not only for the neighboring communities, but for the whole Lungau region.

The Mayor hopes that the railway will prosper for the next 25 years.

He wishes it is possible to conclude a contract with the State of Styria in the near future which would secure the railway for the long term.

The managing director of the Taurachbahn, August Zopf, gave a brief overview of the events of the last 25 years including the renewal of the entire track system, renovation of the two stations, construction of the car shop, and all the other maintenance work done every year.

He thanked the help of the municipalities, the state, and other public bodies, as well as the many volunteers who were able to spend a lot of time on the Taurachbahn.

This fact was also appreciated by the provincial leader in his speech.

He praised the many well-trained volunteers who maintain and operate the Taurachbahn, because the safety of the passengers has top priority.

These idealists let people see the good old times.

After the ceremony, the pageant went to Mariapfarr, where the local band TMK played.

There, Mayor Doppler greeted the country's chief and his guests.

He also appreciated the work of the Taurachbahn volunteers and was happy about the newly renovated station.

Along with the sound of local brass music the pageantry arrived in St. Andrä.

Mayor Perner warmly welcomed the state leader in his community.

Afterwards the party went to the Andlwirt for lunch.

Also at the Mauterndorf station there was something fine.

A real railroad beer brewed with locomotive water, smoked sausages, and grilled hamburger with steam-jet flavor.

Afterwards the band boarded the train to go home.

Since they could not find enough seats in just one car they shared two.

So the Kapellmeister stood on the platform from the other car and waved his patzstaberl around in the air.

One does not know whether he was conducting, or was trying to make himself noticed in the neighboring car.

The inmates there hurriedly started the Samson waltz and whatever else came to mind.

It worked perfectly without a conductor.

It was very loud in the car and you could not hear what their colleagues in the other car were playing.

Fortunately there was no one in Gröbendorf as the train passed by with a brass band, divided into two cars, simultaneously playing two different pieces of music.

And in the middle, standing on the open platform, the wildly gesticulating Kapellmeister!
