Train Derailment Revealed
Kenora Ontario - Details are now being confirmed about a
CP train derailment near Kenora earlier this week.
A CP spokesperson said that 24 cars left the track just before midnight on Sunday, about 40 kilometres east of Kenora.
The derailment caused the rail line to close until Wednesday, with all trains forced to take detours in the interim.
The derailment was revealed Friday by a union representing railway workers, who allege track maintenance standards with CP are
slipping.
The company spokesperson questions the union's allegations, saying CP has been the safest railway in North America during 10 of the
past 12 years. The CP representative also said the public wasn't alerted about the derailment because no one was hurt and public
safety was not an issue.
