2 Dead, 2 Injured After Collision With Train in Sask
Dafoe Saskatchewan - A three-month-old
baby boy and an adult male were killed Friday afternoon when an SUV collided with a Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. freight train.
RCMP said two adult women in the vehicle were taken to hospital in critical condition.
The man who died was driving the SUV.
CPR spokeswoman Breanne Feigel said lights at the rural crossing were flashing.
"The crew did everything according to protocol, in that they noticed there was a car approaching the crossing," she said.
"They would have sounded their whistles and bells, and they would have... applied the emergency brake. But it does take
approximately 1,000 metres for a train to come to a complete stop."
She said no one on the crew was injured but they were relieved of duty and a replacement crew was brought in to carry on with the
journey while RCMP were completing their investigation.
"This is always a very difficult situation for our crews," she said. "Their hearts go out to the family of the
victims."
She said the crew members would be offered stress counselling.
