Emerson Manitoba - Canadian Pacific Railway is
closing its Winnipeg to Emerson subdivision as of noon Friday due to potential flooding of the Red River.
CP spokesman Mike Lovecchio said the railroad will re-route its freight south through another of its subdivisions that
crosses the U.S. border at Portal, Saskatchewan.
He said the company anticipates the line will be closed for three weeks.
"We are quite confident that the vast majority of our customers will be able to be serviced through redundancies in our
network," he said.
In addition to the line closure CP is removing about 0.4 kilometres of track north of Emerson so that dyking could be extended across
CP's right-of-way.
The railroad typically runs about five train per week down that line which runs through to Minneapolis.
