CP Will Mat Final Railway Crossing in Cobourg
Cobourg Ontario - The last unmatted railway
crossing in Cobourg should be taken care of in early May, council heard this week at its committee of the whole meeting.
The work would have to be done by Canadian Pacific staff, with the rubber crossing pads paid for by the town at a cost of $25,000.
This can be done as part of the town's resurfacing budget, said the report from director of public works Stephen Peacock.
"This process was started last year in the hopes of getting it accomplished last year, but it turned out CP was not able to begin
work. They have promised us they would get to work this year," said Councillor Dean McCaughey.
3 to 7 May 2009 has been planned for the work, two days of which the crossing will be completely closed to traffic.
Councillor Miriam Mutton wanted to discuss work that CP did on the George Street crossing last year.
"Some of those places have settled and are something of a tripping hazard. Maybe we can have them take another look at George
Street when they are here," Mutton suggested.
Mayor Peter Delanty said that was a reasonable request and expressed his delight with the prospect of the D'Arcy Street job.
"It's the last major crossing we have in Cobourg, and CP is finally coming to the bat and people won't be phoning to say, The
bottom of my car fell out when I went over that crossing," Delanty said.
