the historic Royal Hudson rolled into the Cloverdale siding behind Clover Square Village on Saturday and Sunday.
Hundreds of delighted well-wishers snapped merrily away under sunny skies.
One of the last locomotives built for the Canadian Pacific Railway, it operated between Revelstoke and Vancouver from 1940 to 1956.
This weekend's trip down memory lane commemorated the 150th anniversary of New Westminster, as well as the 100th anniversary of
Interurban rail service between Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
At Sullivan Station Fraser Valley Heritage Rail members conducted a thriving business in FVHR hats and shirts as over 300 passengers
trooped off the Royal Hudson and checked out the new Connaught interurban on display at the FVHR Barn at the corner of 152 Street
and 64th Avenue.
Many others lined the tracks and waved as the diesel engines pulled the classic locomotive along the Southern Rail tracks.
Ken W. Doiron,Vice President Business Development of SRY Rail Link (Southern Rail) said, "We'd like to see more of this kind of
initiative."
West Coast Railway Association teamed up with SRY Rail Link to make the Royal Hudson's historic trip to the Fraser Valley possible.
The Royal Hudson will again team up with the Whistler Mountaineer on Tuesday, 13 May 2009 for the North Vancouver to
Squamish run.
This will open the Whistler Mountaineer's fourth rail season to Whistler.
