Man Uses Cellphone to Have Police Stop Train Dragging Him
Toronto Ontario - A man is in hospital after being
dragged by a train through Toronto's west end Sunday night.
Police said the man, 28, was dragged from Dundas and Jane to Bathurst and Dupont, a distance of just over six kilometres.
Staff Sergeant Darren Halman of 14 Division said it appears the man and two friends were trespassing in the Lambton Yard and had
climbed onboard one of the cars of a stationary train.
When the train started moving, the two friends were able to jump off, but the man who was dragged slipped and couldn't get free.
"Apparently he was on some sort of a platform and his leg fell through and he couldn't get loose", Sgt. Halman said.
Staff Sergeant Jim Mackrell said the man was able to call police from the train using his cellphone at just after 9 p.m.
Police were then able to call to have the train stopped.
Sgt. Halman said the man was in pain, but conscious, when police arrived.
"He was conscious and breathing, but obviously bleeding", he said.
The man was taken to St. Michael's Hospital and was being treated for injuries to his lower leg, below the shin.
Train traffic in the area was shut down briefly as the man was rescued, police said.
Canadian Pacific Railway police will be following up with any charges, Sgt. Halman said.
