Council Agrees to Pedestrian Bridge to Get to Trains Off Hardwick
Bolton Ontario - Employees sometimes have trouble
accessing trains on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) tracks next to Hardwick Road in Bolton's industrial park.
Caledon councillors recently gave their approval to the installation of a pedestrian bridge between the tracks and the road.
The staff report to council stated CPR started discussions on this topic earlier this year. Trains are sometimes parked on the siding
beneath the Highway 50 overpass, due to congestion at the Vaughan yard, or on the main line. In order for crews to get off the train,
or new crews to get on, it is necessary for them to cross a creek on the northern edge of Hardwick, traversing steep banks that could
pose a safety risk.
CPR is proposing prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge, about 30 feet long, four feet wide with guiderails, and a walkway.
Larry Koehle, acting director of public works and engineering for the Town, told Councillor Allan Thompson this bridge will lead
directly to CPR lands, so it's unlikely local residents would have use for it.
