Waterfront Underpass Now Open
North Bay Ontario - Since the Canadian Pacific
Railway laid track along the shore of Lake Nipissing over a century ago, the community has been separated from Lake Nipissing. It has
been a long-term goal, as far back as the City's first Official Plan in 1928, to re-connect the community to
Lake Nipissing's beaches.
With the construction of the pedestrian underpass, the link has been restored. Our community can once again walk from the downtown
core to the waterfront.
"I am very excited to see this long-awaited project completed and encourage all members of our community to take full
advantage of this wonderful new feature of the Historic Waterfront District", stated Mayor Vic Fedeli. "It's opened just in time to
give easy access to the Summer in the Park and the North Rocks the Bay celebrations", added the Mayor.
The underpass has been professionally designed and constructed and includes lighting and security cameras for public safety.
This project is another example of how a long-term dream can become reality when the three levels of government work
co-operatively together. The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor have played a significant role in helping fund the
underpass project.
